![]() Posted Date: 4/16/2005 Closing/Review Date: CONTINUOUS RECRUITMENT Recruitment #: DISPATCH Position Title: Communications Officer Department: Police Department Division: Communications Salary Range: $27,194 Annually License: None Screening: A written examination and data entry skills test will be administered. ((#02-0015 VH) NEW TEST DATES WILL BE ANNOUNCED. All tests start at 8:30 A.M. Please allow three hours to complete all tests. Examples of Duties: Answers radio calls, monitors emergency traffic on all channels; refers to information sources to determine appropriate units; contacts emergency units to communicate details of calls; conducts computer checks; finds information and communicates to officers as needed; completes various forms; logs calls; maintains data in NCIC, CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch); answers emergency telephone lines, switchboard, public and interoffice lines; and performs other related duties. Minimum Qualifications: Must be a U.S. citizen, honorably discharged from the U.S. Armed Forces (if applicable). Must have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent; must possess the ability to learn proper radio communication techniques; must be able to communicate with the public and co-workers; must be willing to work any shift, weekends and holidays as assigned; must be willing to wear a uniform and work in a stressful environment; must not have been convicted of, or have pled guilty to, or entered a plea or nolo contendere to any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state law or city ordinance relating to force, violence, theft, dishonesty, gambling, liquor or controlled substances; must be willing to have a background investigation conducted which includes a polygraph exam and must successfully complete a one year probationary period. NOTE: copy of birth certificate and high school diploma or GED must be submitted with application.
