Welcome to The Chattanooga Fire Department!

I am pleased to introduce our fire department to you through our newly updated website.  The Chattanooga Fire Department is an innovative and diverse department of 400 firefighters that mirrors the community it serves.

We are fortunate to have some of the most talented and highly trained individuals in the fire service working right here in Chattanooga!  We value the history and tradition of the Chattanooga Fire Department, which dates back to post-Civil War reconstruction in 1871.  We continue to build on the traditions established by our forefathers, but we have a strong vision for the future.

In recent years, our department has been upgraded to an ISO Class 2 department, but we’re not resting on our laurels.  We continue to expand our horizons on training, and in our response capabilities.  As you visit our website, you will find information about the services my department can provide, which includes information related to the following divisions:

  • News Releases
  • Employment Opportunities
  • Training
  • History of the Department
  • Fire Prevention, Education and Codes Enforcement

We have a dynamic department that strives to provide the best possible services to the citizens of Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Please let me know if you have any suggestions for improving this website or my department.

Thanks for visiting.

Wendell G. Rowe
