![]() Councilman Jack Benson received a B.S. from Peabody at Vanderbilt, a M. Ed. from The University of Chattanooga, and completed Post Graduate work at The University of Tennessee at Knoxville. He is presently serving on the Chattanooga City Council as Councilman from District 4 and served as Council Chairman for 2004-2005. Mr. Benson served for 35 years in the Chattanooga Public School System as an elementary and junior high teacher and then as principal of two elementary schools and two junior high schools. He then moved to a system-wide position at the administrative office where he served as Director of Curriculum and as the Assistant to the Superintendent. After retirement from the school system Mr. Benson served as the Executive Director of the Chattanooga Big Brothers/Big Sisters Association. Mr. Benson is a Past-President of the Association of United Way Agency Directors. He has also served on the boards of the National Education Association; Tennessee Education Association; Southern Association of College and Secondary Schools; Chattanooga/Hamilton County Planning Commission; Tele-scripps Cable Access; Council of Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services; Chattanooga Education Association; United Way Allocation Panel; Armed Forces Committee; Camp Ocoee; and Boy Scout Exposition.
