![]() 4/2/2009Chattanooga, TN – The AIM Center will host a reception for “the AIM of Art” on Thursday, April 9 at 2 p.m. “the AIM of Art” is a collection of art by mental health consumers, which will be on display at City Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. Serving mental health consumers, age 16 and older, the AIM Center provides psychiatric rehabilitation services that enhance recovery in the living, working, learning and social environments of the individual’s choice. By offering a lifetime membership, AIM participants are encouraged to utilize services whenever needed. Each week in the new AIM Fine Arts Center, a two-hour workshop is led by a volunteer guest artist involving new media and techniques of their particular specialty. AIM art students have had the privilege of learning a wide variety of exciting expressive techniques, such as modeling from clay with Cessna Decosimo, monotype printmaking with Gabriel Negrete and drawing from life with Linda Starnes. Each lesson incorporates not only a working knowledge of new techniques and media, but more importantly, emphasizes the therapeutic benefits of self expression that art can offer in daily life. Workshops also are taught and organized by Jake Kelley and Frances McDonald. The AIM Fine Arts Center is actively fundraising for workshop supplies and operational expenses. An event is planned for June 6, 2009 at John and Diane Marek’s home. Only 100 $75 per person event tickets will be sold. Please call Ashley at 702-8019 to purchase a ticket.
