Chattanooga, Tennessee – The City of Chattanooga’s Department of Public Works would like to remind all citizens that curbside recyclables will be collected in Area 1 on Wednesday, January 9, 2008.  Area 2 pickup will be on January 16, Area 3 pickup will be on January 23 and Area 4 pickup will be on January 30. 

Curbside recycling pickup begins for Area 1 on the Wednesday following the first Monday of each month.  Curbside collection for areas 2, 3 and 4 will follow Area 1 pickup accordingly.  For assistance in determining your Recycle Wednesday, please visit www.recycleright.org or call 3-1-1.

Recyclables must be placed curbside by 7:00 a.m. on collection day in blue or clear bags or in a covered bin clearly marked “Recycle.”

The following recyclable items may be placed on the curb for collection: cardboard, newspaper, all paper grades (except shredded), plastic #1 and #2 bottles with a neck (look for the triangular recycle symbol on the bottle to determine the plastic number), aluminum cans and steel cans that have been rinsed out.
Items do not need to be separated, cans do not need to be crushed, pull-tabs do not need to be removed from cans and lids do not need to be removed from plastic bottles or jugs.

Area One Pickup Schedule

Area: East of Highway 153 and West of Interstate 75

Area Two Pickup Schedule

Area: East of Interstate 75, West of Highway 153, and East of Crest Road, Campbell Street, and Bonnie Oaks Drive

Area Three Pickup Schedule

Area: West of Crest Road, Campbell Street, and Bonnie Oaks Drive, West of Highway 153, and South of the Tennessee River

Area Four Pickup Schedule

Area: North of the Tennessee River and West of Highway 153

Recycling Convenience Centers
Chattanooga has four recycling convenience centers located throughout the City where other recyclable materials may be collection.

Locations:
Warner Park Recycle Center: 1250 East Third Street
John A. Patten Recreation Center: 3202 Kelly's Ferry Road
Access Road at DuPont Parkway: 4500 North Access Road
East Brainerd Baseball Complex: end of Batter’s Place Road 

Hours of Operation:
Monday-Friday   10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Saturday              9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Sunday                1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

All items collected through curbside pickup may also be taken to recycling convenience centers with the addition of shredded paper, glass bottles (brown, green and clear), wet or dry cell batteries and small electronics (no televisions or microwaves).

Brush Collection
Brush Collection in Area 1 is during the first full week of each month. Brush and leaves will be collected in Area 1 the week of January 7-11, 2008. 

Please follow these brush collection guidelines:  Place brush in small piles on the curb during the 7 days prior to collection week.  Do not place brush near utility poles or mailboxes.  Do not mix brush with other materials, and place bagged leaves in separate piles at street side.
