Stolen Art of Change Meters Replaced
![]() 12/11/2007Chattanooga, Tennessee – City of Chattanooga Public Works employees have replaced the Art of Change meters which were vandalized soon after being installed. An additional 5 meters have been installed as well, bringing the total number of meters to 19. All of the meters have been reinforced to make them stronger and less likely to be damaged. The Art of Change is a public education program designed to educate and encourage local citizens and tourists to stop contributing to panhandlers. Artistically refurbished “parking meters” are located throughout the downtown, riverfront and north shore areas as a place to deposit spare change in lieu of giving to panhandlers. “During this particularly celebratory and festive time of year, remember to extend your warmth and good wishes to others by placing your spare change in the Art of Change meters. This is just one small way to remember those who really need our help and be sure your contribution is actually making a difference,” stated Mayor Littlefield. “We are especially grateful to the companies and organizations that have supported the Art of Change. We intend to continue adding meters to the area and welcome any additional sponsors, the funds from which will go directly to agencies who provide services to our most vulnerable citizens,” said Karen McMahon, program coordinator.
