Free Home Repair Applications Now Being Accepted

1/22/2008

The Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development in partnership with Front Porch Alliance and the Office of Faith-Based and Community Partnerships is currently accepting applications for the 2008 World Changers Home Repair Project which will take place from July 12th-July 26th.

World Changers, a ministry of the North American Mission Board of the Southern Baptist, garners volunteer youth labor from all over the country to provide free home repair to qualifying homeowners in low to moderate income neighborhoods.  Projects include painting, siding, porch repair, construction of handicap ramps and more.

Since their first project in Chattanooga in 2001, World Changers has repaired over 135 homes for some of our most deserving residents.   Though the work is performed by volunteers, many of the crew supervisors are construction professionals, skilled craftsmen, or have years of experience with World Changers and similar home repair projects.

Applications are now being accepted for this year’s project.  To qualify, an applicant must be an elderly, disabled, or a low-income homeowner residing within the Chattanooga city limits.  Applicants must provide proof of income, homeownership and evidence that property taxes are current. Three workshops have been scheduled to provide information and assistance with the application process.  The workshops will be held from 10:30 a.m.-12:00 p.m. as follows:

  • February 6th     Development Resource Center, Room 1A     1250 Market Street
  • February 20th   South Chattanooga Recreation Center           1151 W. 40th Street
  • March 12th       Avondale Recreation Center                             1305 Dodson Avenue

To receive an application or for more information regarding the application workshops, please contact the Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development at (423) 425-3700 or Front Porch Alliance at (423) 756-8545.   The application deadline is March 31, 2008 at 4:00p.m.
