Over 100 Local Students Enter Great Ideas Competition

2/13/2008

Chattanooga, Tennessee – Chattanooga/Hamilton County area junior and senior high school students are proving once again that entrepreneurial spirit can be captured at any age.  This year’s Great Ideas competition has seen more than 100 entries from local public and private schools.

Mayor Ron Littlefield will host a private party to recognize those students who submitted entries in this year’s Great Ideas competition and will be presenting a $500 check to the local high school with the most entrants.  Sponsors of this year’s Great Ideas competition are Chattem and the City of Chattanooga’s Department of Education, Arts & Culture.  The event will be held Friday, February 15, 6:30 p.m., at the Bessie Smith Hall, 200 East M. L. King Boulevard.

"It is encouraging to see so many students enter this competition,” said Mayor Littlefield. “These aspiring entrepreneurs have an opportunity to take their ideas into a new dimension while competing for a scholarship.  Our community is extremely proud of these young men and women."

In the next phase of the Great Ideas competition, twenty-five finalists will attend an educational workshop hosted by Waterhouse Public Relations.  The workshop will cover all aspects of business branding and promotion.  “During this session students will learn how to take their great ideas and make them into great brands—a real look into the world of public relations and marketing,” said Kristiina Braden, Account Manager, Waterhouse Public Relations.

Each student will receive a party package which includes a Great Ideas T-shirt and Certificate of Accomplishment.  Complimentary beverages will be provided courtesy of Chattanooga Coca-Cola Bottling.
