GPS Students Learn Dangers of Drunk Driving
![]() 4/11/2008
The Hamilton County DUI Task Force conducted a mock crash at Girls Preparatory School (GPS) this afternoon. Utilizing five GPS students and one Chattanooga firefighter as victims, the simulated car crash was designed to show GPS students in graphic detail the dangers of drinking and driving. The students listened to a narration of the event as the firefighters and paramedics pulled the victims from the wreckage (see attached photos). A Chattanooga police officer even simulated administering a sobriety test to the student playing the role of the drunk driver. To make the scene as realistic as possible, the firefighters used the Jaws of Life and other cutting tools to extricate one of the two simulated fatalities in the crash. The four injured victims were loaded onto county ambulances and transported away. Participants in this event included GPS, the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department, Chattanooga Fire Department, Chattanooga Police Department, Hamilton County EMS, the Hamilton County District Attorney’s office and County Commissioner Larry Henry, who also serves as chairman of the Advisory Council on Traffic Safety. ### |
