Mayor Littlefield Guest of Honor at Salvation Army Banquet

2/17/2009

Chattanooga, Tennessee - Mayor Ron Littlefield will be the guest of
honor at The Salvation Army Volunteer Appreciation Banquet tonight.  The
banquet is held in recognition of the selfless efforts and dedicated
service of all volunteers. "This honor comes from one of the most
respected organizations in the world of which I am privileged to be a
part," said Mayor Littlefield.  "The Salvation Army is an important part
of our community.  Thousands of lives are touched by their programs and
services."

Mayor Littlefield served as the 2008 Honorary Christmas Chairman.  The
2008 Red Kettle fund drive resulted in over $360,000 raised for
Salvation Army programs.  Mayor Littlefield will be honored along with
the 12,766 volunteers who gave their time and talents in 2008 to Army
programs such as serving meals, assisting inner city youth, ringing
bells, stuffing stockings at Christmas, and assisting in the Angle Tree
distribution.

"The Salvation Army is a strong part of nearly every community in the
United States and its work throughout the United States is greatly
enhanced by its 1.7 million volunteers," states Chattanooga Salvation
Army Area Commander, Major Jim Lawrence.  "Our greatest challenge," he
adds, "is to continue to have sufficient support with time, money, and
resources, for the services The Army provides to those in such need in
our community. We could not do all that we do without the community's
support."
