OMA to Host Fourth Annual Fair Housing Luncheon & Seminar

4/9/2009

Learn What Everyone Should Know About Equal Opportunity in Housing

Chattanooga, Tennessee - The City of Chattanooga’s Office of Multicultural Affairs (OMA) will host a free seminar designed to promote better understanding and awareness of the Fair Housing Act and the Tennessee Human Rights Act as well as offer a general overview of Fair Housing trends in our region.  Both events will take place on Tuesday, April 14.  “The Office of Multicultural Affairs is pleased to be able to provide a public forum to highlight the importance of Fair Housing Laws and their profound impact in the lives of others,” said OMA Director Beverly Cosley.  “The Fair Housing seminar and luncheon are two advocacy tools used to educate and commit people to the tenants of the US Fair Housing Law, Title VIII of the Civil Rights Act of 1968.  Realtors, Mortgage Bankers, Apartment Associations, housing organizations and other fair housing advocates are participating in OMA’s Fair Housing events.”

The seminar will be held at the Chattanooga Choo Choo Town Hall Theatre (Next door to the Model Railroad Museum), from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  Presenters will be James E. Davis, OMA Housing Director, and Shara Cross, Tennessee Human Rights Commission Housing Investigator.

The keynote speaker for the luncheon will be the Honorable Gordon L. Joyner, Esq.  Mr. Joyner served as Director of the Housing and Urban Development’s office of Fair Housing Enforcement under Presidents Carter and Reagan.  Mr. Joyner is a Summa Cum Laude Graduate from Morehouse College and received his Law Degree from Harvard Law School.  The luncheon will be held in the Imperial Ballroom of the Chattanooga Choo Choo and will begin at 11:30 a.m.

Both events are free with limited space available.  Registration is required.  For additional information, please contact:
