Budget Procedure

Chattanooga, Tennessee – The city budgeting process is outlined in Section 8.52 of the Chattanooga City Charter.  It states that the Mayor shall present a recommended annual budget to the city council which the council may accept, modify or reject.  Once a proposed budget is agreed upon, the Council shall enact a budget ordinance establishing the annual budget.  Currently, the city is operating under an interim budget and has until September 30, 2009 to pass a budget ordinance.  Presently, the council has not taken any action on the budget.

Sec. 8.52. Annual Budget.

The mayor shall propose an annual budget and present it to the city council. The council shall enact a budget ordinance after receiving recommendations for the same from the mayor, which recommendations the council may accept, modify or reject.
