City Not Renewing Contract with Fire Chief

3/24/2009

Chattanooga, Tennessee – Mayor Ron Littlefield today announced that the city will not renew the contract for employment with Chattanooga Fire Chief Wendell Rowe.  Chief Rowe has served as Fire Chief since 2005.  “Chief Rowe has had an excellent career with the Chattanooga Fire Department and I am proud of the work that we have accomplished together,” said Mayor Littlefield.  To avoid questions regarding the continuity of day-to-day leadership for the department, responsibility for the chief’s position will be handled by current Deputy Chief, Randy Parker beginning Friday, March 27.

Chief Rowe’s last day of employment with the city will be June 22, 2009.  Mayor Littlefield has asked that Chief Rowe assist with several matters within the next 90 days including how the city might use federal funds or other sources to more fully prepare our emergency response capability and help in establishing a timeline for meeting the requirements set forth in the Volkswagen MOU.
