Fall Leaf Collection

10/23/2009

Chattanooga, Tennessee - The City of Chattanooga’s Department of Public Works announced today that leaf collection will begin November 2, 2009 and end February 26, 2010.

Loose leaves will be collected as crews move through the city during this time. “Bagged leaves” will be collected by calling “311” to schedule a pick up. Place bagged leaves separate from other materials at the curb for collection.  If you choose to bag leaves, please use bio-degradable bags.

These guidelines will help ensure efficient collection of leaves.

1. Keep loose leaves, bagged leaves, and brush separated.  These materials are collected and processed differently.
2. Follow the established collection procedures.  Residents will be permitted to move bagged leaves to the roadside prior to calling “311” for scheduled collection.  Move loose leaves, bagged leaves and brush as close to the edge of pavement as possible, but avoid placing the materials in the street.
3. Avoid raking leaves into ditches as this may lead to flooding problems and impact water quality.  Leaves in the street may cause drainage problems and lead to hazardous driving conditions when wet.
4. Consider backyard composting. Composting is great for your lawn and for the environment.

For more information regarding leaf collection please call 311 or 423-425-6311.
