City Council: Responsibilities include all facets of the legislative branch of City government.

City Court Division, within the Finance Department: Responsibilities include judicial processing for City ordinance violations.  (Violations of State laws are processed by the Hamilton County Courts.)

City Engineer, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include supervision of infrastruction construction contracts.

City Engineering & Stormwater Management Division, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include oversight of infrastructure construction.

City Judges: Responsibilities include hearing cases involving Traffic, Environmental, and other City Ordinance violations.

City-Wide Services Division, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include waste collection and urban forestry.

Codes, Permits & Inspections Division, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include plans review and construction permits and inspections.

Community Development Office: Responsibilities include using grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to help fund affordable housing, employment, business and social-service assistance.

Finance Administration Division, within the Finance Department: Responsibilities include accounting, budgeting, accounts payable and accounts receivable.

Finance Department: Responsibilities include management of all City finances.  In addition, the City Court, Information Services, and Real Estate Divisions fall within this department.

Fire Department: Responsibilities include fire suppression, emergency medical and rescue response, and fire safety inspections and enforcement.

Information Services Division, within the Mayors Office: Responsibilities include implementation of business software, maintenance of network and database infrastructure, and telecommunications.

Mayor's Office: Responsibilities include all facets of the executive branch of City government.

Neighborhood Services Department: Responsibilities include enforcement of housing and environmental codes, and support for neighborhood associations.

Neighborhood Relations Division, within the Neighborhood Services Department: Responsibilities include support for local neighborhood associations in their efforts to improve their local areas.

Neighborhood Code Enforcement Division, within the Neighborhood Services Department: Responsibilities include  enforcement of housing and environmental codes.

Parks, Recreation, Arts & Culture Department: Responsibilities include maintenance of all City recreation facilities, including Parks, Recreation Centers, the Chattanooga Zoo, Performance Venues, and Therapeutic Recreation programs, as well as Fitness, Golf, Tennis, and Aquatic facilities.

Police Department: Responsibilities include law enforcement throughout the City.

Public Works Department: Responsibilities include design and maintenance of public infrastructure, such as streets, sewers, waste management, and construction supervision.

Purchasing Division, within the Finance Department: Responsibilities include bid management and buying for all City offices, other than construction contracts for City infrastructure (which are bid by the City Engineer's Office).

Real Estate Division, within the Finance Department: Responsibilities include management of City-owned property and disposal of any surplus properties.

Stormwater Management Office, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include design and maintenance of water run-off and erosion control systems.

Technical Information Office, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include maintenance and decimation of construction specifications files.

Traffic Engineering & Operations Division, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include design and maintenance of traffic flow and traffic control devices.

Treasury Division, within the Finance Department: Responsibilities include billing and collection of City property and business taxes, and management of City banking and investment concerns.

Waste Resources Division, within the Public Works Department: Responsibilities include maintenance of waste-control facilities, including the sewer treatment plant, landfills, and brush and recycling centers.
