![]() 6/1/2009Chattanooga, Tenn. – The Tennessee Department of Transportation and the City of Chattanooga announced today that the Shallowford Road widening project is complete and the roadway is fully open to traffic. The $6.2-million project, which was overseen by TDOT for the city of Chattanooga, widened and improved the 1.1-mile section of .Shallowford Road beginning west of Mark Lane and extending to west of Center Street. The prime contractor for the project was Greenstar, LLC from Cleveland, Tennessee. “The completion of this project means that Shallowford Road is now a five-lane road from SR-153 to past Gunbarrel Road,” said TDOT Regional Director Bob Brown. “We are very pleased to finish this much-needed project.” Chattanooga Mayor Ron Littlefield added, “This is a major step toward the long-sought goal of a widened and improved Shallowford Road extending from Jenkins Road to Wilcox Boulevard. This was an expensive and difficult project, but the positive effects of this east-west arterial will serve Chattanooga well for decades to come. I congratulate TDOT and the contractor and thank the public for their patience.” Although the roadway is now open to traffic, the contractor will be in the area completing final clean up and addressing punchlist items. Motorists are urged to be alert for workers near the roadway and to obey the posted speed limit. |
