Mayor Bob Corker selects David Eichenthal to head up Office of Performance Review

7/23/2002

Chattanooga, TN—Mayor Bob Corker announced today that David Eichenthal has been named the Director of the Office of Performance Review for the City of Chattanooga.

In this role, Mr. Eichenthal will have responsibility for setting performance standards for all departments of City Government and working to ensure that they all run effectively and efficiently.  Mr. Eichenthal will also work with outside agencies who receive City support to make sure that City receives great value for its contribution.  Mr. Eichenthal will also assume responsibility for the new Call Center that the City will be launching as well as responsibility for heading up the City’s grants function. This performance oversight is critical to the City in these times of scarce economic resources.

Mayor Corker said, “David brings to the City a great deal of experience and knowledge from his public service in New York City that will help us manage this important function for the City.  We took considerable time, even conducting an intensive local and national search, as we worked to fill the position and I believe we have found the right person for the job.”

Mr. Eichenthal was previously the Chief of Staff for New York City’s second highest elected official, the Public Advocate.  In that role he managed the office’s day-to-day operations and staff, as well as overseeing policy development, ombudsman services, press relations and community affairs.

Some career highlights for Mr. Eichenthal include serving as the Chief of Policy for the Office of the Public Advocate, Assistant Inspector General for Policy for the NYC School Construction Authority and Assistant Advocate for Research and Investigation for the Office of the Public Advocate.  He has also been a visiting scholar at the New York University Taub Urban Research Center where he worked on the development of a proposal for federal funding for a community prosecution initiative and authored a study on the potential impact an economic downtown would have on the budget of New York City.
