2009 School Program Information

All Chattanooga Zoo Education Programs are aligned to state science standards and benchmarks, curriculum, and objectives for Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama, along with national science education standards.
All programs are designed to be suitable and appropriate for any grade level, Pre-K through 12.

Pricing

Education Programs at Your School

$60.00 (plus mileage fees of $0.40 per mile for locations outside of Hamilton County or a 30-mile radius of the Zoo.)
*Title 1 and Headstart schools receive FREE programs and are exempt from mileage charges.


Education Programs at The Zoo

$3.00/child (includes education program and Zoo admission)
*One (1) Adult for every ten (10) paying children is FREE. Adults surpassing this will be charged the regular Adult Admission fee of $6.00
**Title 1 and Headstart students and teachers are FREE. Other adults will be charged the regular Adult Admission fee of $6.00




Available Programs

Night Time is the Right Time

What animals are awake while you sleep? This program explores the lives of animals that are hunting, eating, and playing while you slumber.



Reptiles!

How many reptiles are alive today whose ancestors were dinosaurs? Learn all about the large, small and scaly creatures and how they continue to survive from the days of the T-Rex.



Fur, Feathers, and Scales

This program compares the differences and similarities of birds, reptiles, and mammals. Students will see, feel, and experience the unique characteristics of each species up close and personal.



What's Bugging You?

Explore the wonderful world of insects, better known as arthopods and isopods. Check out the six legs, antennae and big, buggy eyes of the crawling variety. Watch them run up, down, over and under, as their wiggly antennae feel their way across floors, ground and all around.



Awesome Arachnids

Spiders, spiders everywhere and webs to catch you learning! We have tarantulas galore with eight long and hairy legs. Find out about their lifestyle and habits. Do they bite? Are they venomous? Do they shed their skin?



Rainforest Rarities

Take a look into the rainforest and its fragile ecosystem right here in our Asian and African exhibits. As you learn about rainforest conservation, we bring the excitement of showing some of these live birds, mammals, and reptiles here or to you!



Going, Going, Almost Gone

This program focuses on the endangered wildlife living at the Zoo. From many parts of our planet, these animals are getting closer to extinction. Discussion of their vulnerability and habitat loss is vital to the students' knowledge of our shrinking wildlife.



Hibernation or Migration

As the weather cools, leaves change colors and cold winter days set in, what and where does wildlife do or go? Birds, mammals, insects, and reptiles all over the world have a unique method of surviving the icy temperatures. Do they hibernate or migrate? Or do they just crawl back under a rock?



Beaks and Feet

Here's a chance to discover the many different kinds of bird beaks, along with the many and varied types of bird feet! Discover how the designs of both enabled birds to survive in all kinds of habitats - wet, dry, rocky, or flat!



You Tell Us!

We will focus on any individualized benchmark standard and objective that you, the teacher are studying at any particular time with your class. We will form a program around your curriculum or topic of study. You tell us!
