Himalayan Passage:

In 1271, 17-year-old Venetian Marco Polo set out with his father and uncle for the empire of Mongolian Kublai Khan, conqueror of China and its surroundings.

Marco stayed and traveled throughout Asia for 17 years under the service of Khan, who gave him a golden passport medallion to ensure his safe passage throughout the empire.  Thanks to the golden passport given by Kublai Khan, Marco became the first European to cross the entire continent of Asia.

The golden signs along the exhibit path are your passport to discovering the countries of the Himalayan Passage -- Myanmar, China, Tibet, India, Bhutan, and Nepal.

Animals you’ll see here:  Red Panda, Muntjac Deer, Bali Mynah, Tibetan Frog-eyed Gecko, Vietnamese Centipede
