TRIPS and PADDLING OPPORTUNITIES:

South Chickamauga Creek:
This trip is being sponsored by The Tennessee Aquarium to sign up for it call 267-FISH.  Join Outdoor Chattanooga’s OutVenture and The Tennessee Aquarium for a day of paddling and exploring along the twisting turning South Chickamauga Creek.  This seldom paddled waterway is rich in history and full of breath taking beauty.  Rock ledges, beavers, herons, old railroad bridges, and hardwood canopies are what you can expect to see as you paddle along this creek.  We will launch our boats by the Brainerd Levy and paddle nine miles down stream, running the occasional little rapid, and wondering what is around the next bend as the current pushes us along.  Participants will have the opportunity to paddle a canoe or recreational kayak for this adventure, call the OutVenture at 842-6629 for more information about the boats.

Richland Creek to Blythe Ferry
Cost:  $40.00 per person (includes transportation, all equipment, and guides)
Length:  7 miles / 5 hours on the water
Level:  Intermediate
Six person minimum
Our paddle will start on the sheltered waterway of Richland Creek, which flows through the historic town of Dayton, Tennessee.  The shallow creek is moderately developed with houses on either side, but is a favorite feeding ground to many Herons, King fishers, and Ospreys.  After a pleasant two-mile paddle the creek enters the TN River just above the boundary of The Hiwassee Wildlife Refuge.  The river provides us with a nice current that will be easing our paddle along farmlands, rock out croppings, and sections of reed grasses.  Soon we will be at the head of the Hiawassee Island and its wonderful habitat.  Its time to put your paddle down and break out your binoculars while the current pushes us towards the take out.  Just down river of the island is Blythe Ferry where we will be ending our wonderful adventure.  Overall we will have spent around five hours on the water and paddled a scenic seven miles.
