Pre-Submittal Meetings

We recommend that if you will be submitting non-residential plans for review or if you have questions about any proposed project that you contact our office to schedule a Pre-Submittal Meeting.

The pre-submittal meeting is where Plans Review, Traffic Engineering, Stormwater, Planning, Fire Marshall, Engineering, Urban Forestry, Landscaping and Zoning professionals meet with anyone interested to assist with project development prior to formally submitting their plans for review.  We welcome owners, architects, contractors, and developers to this venue to discuss your project and explain the codes and requirements.  These meetings are not intended to replace the review process and no permits will be approved at this meeting.  Plans must be submitted and reviewed separately.

If you are planning non-residential construction in the City of Chattanooga or if you have a desire to meet with our staff personnel to aide in any residential construction plans, day care or rehabilitation center operation, etc., you may call our office to set up a pre-submittal meeting. A completed Site Survey Worksheet is needed when you come to the meeting along with any preliminary plans you may have.

Meetings are by appointment only.  You may call our main number, 423-757-5105, and speak with any of the clerks to set up an appointment or obtain additional information.

Plans that are required to have A Design Professional's Tennessee (Architect or Engineer) Stamp affixed to them include:

  • All Assembly (50 or more people), Educational, and Institutional occupancies.
  • Buildings and structures two stories or more high.
  • Buildings and structures 5,000 sq. ft. (465m) (Add floors together) or more in area
