City Of Chattanooga
Neighborhood University
Neighborhood University aims to strengthen leadership and community building skills by providing specialized training for Chattanooga's most active neighborhood leaders. It's designed to increase the capacity of neighborhood leaders and potential leaders of community-based organizations. In its first year graduates participated in six sessions and a total of 48 hours of classes on topics including community organizing, intergenerational planning, and coalition-building. Instructors from NeighborWorks Training Institute, based in Washington, D.C., facilitated the sessions.
Engaged community leaders from 32 neighborhood organizations in Chattanooga were the first graduates of Neighborhood University in March 2015. At the end of the course, they gained the skills to develop and execute plans of action for their specific neighborhood needs, grow supporters to help move their plans forward, and measure the success of their plans along the way.
