The City of Chattanooga celebrated the grand opening of the North River Civic Center in Hixson on February 20, 2004. The center is owned by the City of Chattanooga and operated by the Department of Education, Arts & Culture. The facility features educational, recreational and fitness programs for youth, adults and seniors north of the river, and also serves as a meeting place for community organizations. The center is located in the office park behind Northgate Mall.
The center features a large meeting room and full kitchen with restrooms and front reception area. The main meeting room can be divided into two sections for simultaneous activities, while a third area just outside the kitchen is furnished for card games and socializing. The large kitchen also serves as an arts and crafts center.
Some of the community organizations that meet regularly at the NRCC include the Hixson Chamber of Commerce, the Rose Society, the Lions Club, Tennessee Valley Rock & Mineral Club, the American Legion, and the Hixson Utility District.

"Sky Rhythms" Fine Art Exhibit
March-April-May 2013
The North Georgia Sky Painters Society is a small group of local artists who have been painting together for 3 years. The group focuses on capturing the majesty of the sky on paper and canvas using various media. The ever-changing sky offers endless opportunities for awe-inspiring re-creations. Styles range from realism to impressionism to expressionism. The members hope to inspire others to gaze upward more often and enjoy the ethereal qualities of the sky. The group likes to remind others that while the sky is blue some of the time, the yellows, reds and purples offer an array of beauty and drama that the members strive constantly to depict. The members are Carol Hobbs, Sandra Babb, Betty Hamilton, Sherry Hullender, Janice Kennedy, Evelyn Marie Williams and BJ Wright. This exhibit will be in the gallery March through May. An opening reception will be held at the NRCC on March 17, 4:00-6:00 pm.
