03-29-2013 Fire Displaces Family of Six

E4 initiated an interior fire attack with an 1 and 3/4 hose line. Apparently one of the older children was cooking for the others while the mother was gone and a fire broke out in the kitchen area. The mother arrived back at the scene a few minutes later and was transported by HCEMS for a medical problem not related to the fire. Four of the five children were at home and were taken to a neighbors house until family arrived. American Red Cross arrived on the scene and is going to provide the family assistance.

Acting Battalion Chief Michael Thomas reported the fire was contained to the kitchen area and there was also smoke damage throughout the house. The estimated damages are $10,000. The family dog was also got out of the house safely and was returned to the family.

Volunteers with the American Red Cross of Southeast Tennessee were called in to provide assistance to the six displaced residents. Chattanooga police, Hamilton County EMS and EPB also provided valuable assistance on the scene. The call was received at 1:11 pm today.
