1-8-18 Firefighters Respond to Small Fire at Local Detention Facility

The two inmates in the cell were transported by Hamilton County EMS to a local hospital for minor burns and smoke inhalation. Two officers with CoreCivic were also transported by EMS for smoke inhalation. A supervisor with EMS said none of the patients transported had life-threatening injuries.

When the fire was discovered, officers and staff with CoreCivic evacuated the cell block, relocating the unaffected inmates to other parts of the facility for their own protection. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chattanooga Fire Department and the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
