02-01-2012 Fire Destroys Home Off Dayton Pike

Captain Kenney Short with Engine 22 said he could only see light smoke when they arrived on the scene. Moments later however, flames appeared between a new roof and an old roof on the house.

The fire quickly spread across the entire roof. Captain Short said it was difficult for the firefighters to get to the flames hidden between the two roofs. Once they were able to cut holes in the roof to ventilate the hot gases, the firefighters were able to finish extinguishing the blaze. Captain Short said one firefighter suffered minor burns to the face. No other injuries were reported.

The house was considered a total loss, with damages estimated at around $140,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
