07-23-2012 Man Arrested for Setting Fire to New Wellness Center

When firefighters arrived, they had to gain entry by cutting through chains at two different gates.

The firefighters got the fire under control very quickly and no injuries were reported. The dollar loss was estimated at $5,000, and firefighters said there was no structural damage to the building.

The firefighters were notified that Chattanooga police had someone in custody who was suspected of starting the fire. Lt. Henry McElvain with the Fire Investigation Division was called to the scene and after a brief investigation, charged 19-year-old Kashmone Marlin with arson. Lt. McElvain said Marlin allegedly set insulation and other building materials on fire. Eyewitnesses saw Mr. Marlin leaving the scene around the time the fire was discovered.

Around 3:00 a.m. today, Chattanooga police transported Mr. Marlin to the county jail for booking. Lt. Andrew Waters assisted with the investigation.
