09-17-17 Fatal Fire in Lookout Valley

Chattanooga, Tenn. -- This afternoon the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a reported house fire at 1218 Judy's Lane in Lookout Valley at 3:14 pm. Squad 20 was first arriving company confirmed smoke and flames showing. A off duty Chattanooga Fire fighter and 3 neighbors pulled a resident from the house. There were six fire companies that responded to this fire. Squad 20, Quint 1, Ladder 1, Quint 3, Squad 1, Quint 2, Battalion Chief 1, Battalion Chief 3, and PIO. Hamilton County EMS and Chattanooga Police Department also responded.
09-19-17 Update on Sunday's Fatal Fire in Lookout Valley
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- The victim in Sunday's fatal fire at 1218 Judys Lane in Lookout Valley has been identified as Charles Vaughn. He was 72. Details on this incident are still being obtained, but from what we do know, Mr. Vaughn was reportedly in the attached garage around 3:00 Sunday afternoon working on a lawnmower when the fire started. His wife and daughter were in the house at the time.
09-16-17 Child with Lighter Starts Morning Fire
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire around 7:30 this morning in the 2100 block of E. 12th Street. Battalion Chief Chris Willmore said smoke was showing when the first firefighters with Engine 5 arrived on the scene.
Chief Willmore said the firefighters encountered heavy, black smoke and heat in the back of the home. No one was found in the home after primary and secondary searches.
The fire was located in a back bedroom and the firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in about 25 minutes. The dollar loss was estimated at $30,000.
Chief Willmore said one 8-year-old boy was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Children's Hospital at Erlanger for treatment of smoke inhalation. Chief Willmore said the child's injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, but he may be kept overnight for observation.
Fire investigators believe the fire was started by a child playing with a cigarette lighter. Volunteers with the Red Cross were called in to provide assistance to the mother and her seven children. Chattanooga police also provided assistance on the scene.

09-10-17 Firefighters Respond to Fire Early Sunday Morning
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters responded to a house fire shortly before 3:00 this morning at 2903 3rd Avenue. Lt. Nick Sewell with Engine 9 said smoke and flames were visible at the rear of the structure when the first firefighters arrived on the scene.
09-08-17 Kitchen Fire Displaced 1 Adult & 3 Children
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- At 12:37 PM today, the Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 601 N. Germantown Rd. Four fire companies responded. The fire had been extinguished by the occupants, but the kitchen had substantial damage. No one was injured. The cause of the fire has been been ruled accidental, most likely from food being left unattended on the stove. Red Cross was notified to assist the family affected.
