Chattanooga Forward: Sports & Outdoors

Currently the task force is investigating how we can continue to define ourselves through our natural setting and, more importantly, grow that relationship, ensuring it is instilled in all of us. We must make sure that all Chattanoogans have access to experience our great outdoors, to learn a new sport, or witness that sport it in action.

As we lay out the foundation of an action plan in the coming weeks, our task force members are asking themselves some important questions: How do we get more Chattanoogans engaged in recreation? How do we plug in someone to a sport they’ve never tried or to an outdoor activity that could change their life? Where could Chattanooga’s identity as an outdoor mecca lead us as a community? How will that transform our identity as a city - and what are the best avenues to take to get us there?

Sports, recreation, physical activity and the great outdoors are more than just fun ways to spend a few hours on the weekend. Nurtured into something bigger they can be ways we empower ourselves, connect a community, and respectfully make use of this wonderful natural setting we get to call home.

I’m excited about this task force and look forward to sharing our work with the community as we move Chattanooga Forward.
