12-19-17 Traffic Crash / CPD Involved - 3100 4th Ave.

Chattanooga Police were responding with emergency equipment activated (lights and siren) to a car fire with possible entrapment

Chattanooga Police officers were traveling south on 4th Avenue approaching E 31st Street

A civilian was travelling eastbound on E 31st Street, driving a 2005 Saturn Ion with one passenger

The driver of the Saturn proceeded through the 4th Ave intersection without coming to a stop, failing to yield to both police and the posted stop sign

A collision occurred in the intersection which resulted in both the officers inside the patrol car to be transported to a local hospital with minor injuries

The driver and passenger of the Saturn refused medical treatment on scene from HCEMS

Approx two weeks later, on 12/14/17, the Chattanooga Police Department was notified by the Hamilton County Medical Examiner's office that the driver of the Saturn went to the hospital two days after the collision and had passed away at a later date

The Chattanooga Police Traffic Unit is still investigating the collision and will continue to do so in a logical manner
