2-17-18 Traffic Crash / Fatality ​- 301 Ochs Hwy.

Vehicle 1 was traveling north on Ochs Hwy (down Lookout Mtn)Vehicles 2 & 3 were traveling south on Ochs Hwy (up Lookout Mtn)
  • Driver of Vehicle 1 stated to police he lost his brakes
  • Vehicle 1 crossed the double line and sideswiped Vehicles 2 & 3
  • Driver of Vehicle 1 stated to police he attempted to put his vehicle in a ditch, but could not slow the speed of the vehicle
  • Vehicle 1 continued down the mountain in the opposite lane of travel before coming to a sharp left turn
  • At the same time Vehicle 4 was negotiating the same curve in the opposite direction
  • Vehicle 1 struck Vehicle 4 head on
  • Driver of Vehicle 4 was pronounced deceased on scene
  • Juvenile passenger in Vehicle 4 and driver of Vehicle 1 were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries by Hamilton County EMS
  • Vehicle 1 was fully loaded with hazardous material. Hazmat response was handled by Chattanooga Fire Department
  • ​CPD ​Traffic Division ​will continue this crash investigation and submit its findings at a later date

    Vehicle #3​: Subaru

    Vehicle #4: Toyota Tacoma ​

    Driver #1​: James Wilson

    Deceased Driver: Mallory Baldshun

    Chattanooga Police ask anyone with information regarding this incident to call 423-698-2525. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when available.
