Mayor's Challenge
Mayor Berke pledged support of the USDOT's recently launched Mayors' Challenge for Safer People, Safer Streets. This is a call to action. One of the major components of the Challenge is also a priority for Mayor Berke – citizen engagement. The Chattanooga Department of Transportation created 3 Action Teams – each one with a specific area of emphasis: Neighborhood, Results, and Safety. Please pledge your time and energy towards this important effort and join an action team:
Neighborhood Action Team: Participate in CDOT complete streets project public meetings, provide input in the online Bike Implementation Plan, and help with community outreach.
Results Action Team: Report "bite-sized" barriers for citizens using our public streets and sidewalks and tack project progress and the number of users. Make your report by calling 311 or emailing (311@chattanooga.gov) and mention the Mayors' Challenge.
Safety Action Team: Increase public awareness of transportation options though walk to school events, education classes between road users, Crosswalk Safety Day, and a Don't Text and Drive campaign.
