A city is but a reflection of the dreams, goals and achievements of its citizens. In 1996, recognizing the importance of strong neighborhoods to a thriving city and realizing that quality of life concerns can be most effectively addressed at the neighborhood level, the City of Chattanooga made manifest its commitment to neighborhoods by creating the Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development.

MISSION STATEMENT:
The Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development is dedicated to maintaining Chattanooga’s neighborhoods by identifying revitalization opportunities, fostering community partnerships, cultivating neighborhood based leadership, and engaging in active code enforcement to create viable living environments that enhance the quality of life for all residents.
