03-28-16 Fire Damages Vacant House in Highland Park

Captain John Ives with Engine 5 stepped out to look and could see smoke coming from a house just down the street. After notifying the other firefighters at the station and 911 Communications, firefighters with Engine 5 and Ladder 5 responded to 1002 S. Willow Street. Firefighters with Quint 1, Quint 2, Squad 1 and QRV 1 also responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters made an aggressive interior attack on the fire. Captain David Thompson Jr., the incident commander, said they were able to get the fire out in under 15 minutes. Firefighters were told that no one was living in the house. One firefighter was transported by Hamilton County EMS to Erlanger Medical Center for heat exhaustion. He was expected to be treated and released.

Captain Thompson said the fire was mostly contained to the first floor, with moderate to heavy smoke and heat damage to the upstairs portion of the house. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
