11-4-19 Passerby & others alert CFD to house fire
Members of the community notified 911 tonight and helped get fire crews to a burning home on Bailey Avenue.
It happened just before 5 PM Monday in the 2400 block.
A passerby walking her dog called it in and there were several other reports received from vigilant citizens.
Chattanooga police officers were first on the scene and checked to see if anyone was inside, but no one was home.
When firefighters arrived, flames were showing through the windows.
They went in through the front door and put the fire out.
There were no injuries.
Two people were displaced and the Red Cross was contacted to assist the impacted residents.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
11-2-19 Smoke alarm distribution
A great group of firefighters and volunteers came out for a free smoke alarm distribution in the East Lake neighborhood! Thanks to everyone and the Red Cross!
We knocked on approximately 224 doors, installed dozens of smoke detectors and replaced batteries in others.
As we all get ready to “fall back” this weekend when Daylight Saving Time ends, the Chattanooga Fire Department is urging residents to change the batteries in their smoke alarms.
And it’s important to make sure your smoke alarms are all working properly.
11-2-19 Firefighters respond to 17th Ave house fire
A Chattanooga man and his pets safely escaped a house fire in East Lake early Saturday morning.
It happened just after midnight in the 3900 block of 17th Avenue.
The fire appears to have started in the laundry area of the home, according to responding fire officials.
The resident evacuated with his pets and called 911. There were no injuries and Red Cross was contacted for assistance.
Responding companies were Engine 9, Engine 5, Ladder 5, Quint 14, Squad 1, Battalion 1 and a squad from East Ridge. HCEMS and CPD also responded.
10-29-19 Jail ventilation conducted
Multiple areas of the Hamilton County Jail were ventilated Tuesday night after heavy smoke inside the facility prompted the relocation of approximately 150 inmates.
What caused the smoke is still under investigation.
CFD was called to 601 Walnut Street just after 6:30 PM.
Jail personnel reported smoke on the fifth floor.
The impact was isolated the to sixth and fifth floors, as well as part of the fourth floor.
10-27-19 Hikers located on Lookout Mountain
Two hikers are safe after being rescued by first responders on Lookout Mountain.
The couple, in their early 20s, left from Cravens House on Sunday. They ended up getting lost, and then it got dark.
Around 7:15 PM they called 911 and 911 was able to ping their cell phone for a GPS location.
CFD’s Quint 14 set up command at Sunset Rock because that was the closest location for them to come out.
Two firefighters made their way into the woods, located the hikers and brought them out with the help of the Lookout Mountain Police Department and park rangers.
The hikers were not injured. They asked for water and a ride back to their car.
CFD appreciates the support from the agencies who responded to help with the search. Mutual aid was requested from Lookout Mountain and Hamilton County Special Tactics and Rescue Services (STARS).
