09-11-17 Chattanooga Firefighters Recognized with Governor's Certificate
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Chattanooga firefighters who responded to the Woodmore Bus Crash on November 21, 2016 were recognized for their efforts today by the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security. The recognition is normally reserved for one first responder, but in this case they made an exception. At their First Responder Recognition Ceremony, held every year on the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Homeland Security Commissioner David Purkey presented the "Three Stars of Tennessee" award to Captain Keith Liles and eight other firefighters who were able to make the trip to the state capitol.
09-05-17 Lightning Sparks Blaze on Big Ridge
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- At 6:52 tonight, Chattanooga firefighters responded to a reported house fire at 3140 Hamill Road. Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles as fire companies from several stations responded. When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, Battalion Chief Chris Warren said the garage was engulfed in flames and fire had already broken through the roof over the garage.
09-06-17 Firefighter Food Drive Next Week
The Chattanooga Fire Department will conduct it's 11th annual Firefighter Food Drive next week (Sept. 11--7, 2017) in support of the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. Here is a list of activities related to the food drive:
08-30-17 DMAT Deployment to Texas
The Disaster Medical Assistance Team (DMAT) based in Chattanooga has deployed to the area devastated by Hurricane Harvey. I don't have any additional information to offer at this point. For more information on DMAT, check out their website: http://www.tn1dmat.com/
08-30-17 Haz-Mat Incident Sends Two Dozen People to Local Hospitals
Chattanooga, Tenn. -- Shortly before 10:00 a.m. today, Chattanooga firefighters were dispatched to a reported hazardous materials incident at Southern Filter Media, located at 2735 Kanasita Drive. Employees at the company told firefighters that they were using a heat sealing process when they started to feel ill. They stopped the operation and got out of the building. When additional employees started feeling sick, they called 911.
