Fire Maintenance Photos

cfdsupplyThe Chattanooga Fire Department's Maintenance Division consists of one Facilities Superintendent, one Maintenance Mechanic Senior and three Maintenance Mechanics.  The division performs routine maintenance such as repairing heat and air units, plumbing repairs, changing light bulbs, changing a/c filters monthly, unstopping drains, repairing stoves and repairing bay doors.  This division maintains the grounds at the Fire Training Center, and on 20 buildings occupied by the Chattanooga Fire Department.  The Maintenance Division also provides support to Fire Administration, the Logistics Division, the Training Division, General Services and Personnel on special projects as needed.

The main function of the Fire Investigation Division is to determine the cause and origin of fires.  The majority of Chattanooga's fires are started accidentally, but some are started by arsonists. There are four members of the Fire Investigation Division who are dedicated to apprehending arsonists and putting them in jail.  They are sworn personnel having full police powers and they have received training and expertise in fire and crime scene photography, and the collection and preservation of physical evidence.  All personnel of this division are active members of the International Association of Arson Investigators.

Chattanooga fire investigators respond to more than 200 calls per year, and they far exceed the national average in terms of arrests and convictions.

The Fire Investigation Division plans to continue an aggressive approach to arson-related offenses.  Such action will serve as a deterrent to arsonists and offer protection to the citizens of this great City.

If you would like more information about the Fire Investigation Division, or if you have information about a specific fire that is currently under investigation, please call (423) 643-5634.  You can also fax arson tips at (423) 643-5611, or E-mail us at arsontips@mail.chattanooga.gov.
